Remember to check out your skimmers on a daily basis. The smallest amount of junk can cause circulation problems. Very important to a pool’s beauty is the fact you have to shock with chlorine weekly, or after any amount of rainfall. Also, algaecide is avery important part of a weekly maintenance program. Be sure you keep chlorine pucks/sticks constantly going to the pool. Ideally, you will have a chlorinator plumbed in at the equipment. If you are chlorinator free, use a floater. Just be careful, if the water stops moving in the pool, the floating chlorine dispenser stops moving, thus dumping massive amounts of chlorine in one spot. You will have a nice white spot where you once had a beautiful, colorful liner…….whoops!!!! After years of dealing with pools, I highly recommend Bioguard chemicals, yes, they are more expensive, but like momma says you get what you pay for.

Yes,I have 4 children, so, yes, I finally gave in to the “we need a pool, mommy!!!” And here is the kicker, I bought one of those horrid little BLUE pools…….no I will not call the product name. The reason being, I cursed those pools for years. They are a highly over-rated piece of junk, but when there is little in the budget, we go with simple and CHEAP. Kids are happy, ’nuff said. Lol One thing I have always tried to press upon folks, you get what you pay for!

Alright folks, I have finally figured out what it means to be in the 21st century. I have a blog! I am a 35 yr. old, stay at home mother of 4 children. Ten years ago, before I became a wife and mother, I had, what I thought to be a wonderful job/career. I built, serviced swimming pools and spas, of all kinds. I have worked for some amazing people and some not so amazing folks.Some of questionable integrity, and some award winning folks. The one thing that I definitely can say about people, when you put a body of water in a person’s backyard, no matter their educational background, they are totally and completely LOST. I would always tell a customer, your pool or spa is no different from a child, it has to have attention, love and care.Now, that we are in the middle of summer, pools are at their height of being loved and cared for.Unfortunately, after 15 years in the business of pools, having built the DREAM backyard for a good many families, alas, NO pool is in my backyard.

Remember earlier, I told you that you had acquired a small child, when you purchased your backyard dream??PLEASE do not forget to test your pool water weekly with a pool professional, but, also be sure that you have a test kit at home. It is very important to be able to test your Chlorine level, PH level, Total Alkalinity; at home. Your pool professional(p.p.) will be able to test for other things, such as Cyanuric, Calcium Hardness, water saturation…….you know the little test strips with numerous little test pads that they feed into a computer!!! LOL Most of my chemical knowledge comes from dealing with pools that are vinyl liners, whether inground or above ground.
